Blazer of Glory Sewing Challenge // Closet Case Patterns
Our Sewing Patterns

Introducing the Blazer of Glory Sewing Challenge!

We’ve been overwhelmed by your incredible response to our latest pattern, the Jasika Blazer. I can’t tell you how happy it makes me to see so many people excited and inspired to tackle tailoring; it truly is the best way to push your sewing practice further. Sometimes I feel like a broken record, but I can’t help myself from harping on this truly salient point: the confidence you gain from trying new things is priceless. I’ve always been an ambitious sewist, but discovering the pleasures and rewards of an engrossing project like a tailored jacket has been a super-turbo-boost for my sewjo.

To support and guide you on our blazer making journey, we are jumpstarting a new initiative: a two-month long blazer sewing challenge on Instagram we are calling “Blazer of Glory”. Each week until the end of April, we will start each Monday with a prompt and “to-do” list. Sewing a blazer is an investment of time, so we want to make the whole process fun and enjoyable, and something you can slowly work on a little each week. You can certainly participate even if you’re powering through and making your blazer in a week or two, but I think this is a great way to dip your toe into tailoring without feeling overwhelmed.

So, how will this work? We have broken down the entire process into digestible, manageable chunks. Each week we will have a different prompt (announced here and on Instagram) for that week’s agenda. We want to see your progress each week! The joy is in the doing, so we want you to share your journey; the fabrics you’re using, your fit adventures, your challenges and triumphs. While you’re sewing along, use the hashtag #blazerofglory and #jasikablazer so we can find you. Each week will be sponsored by some of our favorite sewing companies, and we’ll be handing out prizes weekly to those of you following along with the prompts. In addition, Amy and Alexis will be sewing a blazer right alongside you and talking about the process in our Instagram stories (Amy has never made a blazer before so she’ll be just as much a newb as anyone!) Please note this isn’t a formal sewalong; that is what our online course is for. This is simply a community event where you can find your blazer making tribe and we can all support and uplift each other along the way.

This week’s prompt is easy: simply join. Announce on Instagram via your feed or stories that you are participating in #blazerofglory and you’ll be entered in this week’s giveaway. This week’s prize is very fun and very apropos for tailoring: a handmade, artisanal clapper set from Jacksons Woodworks! This prize includes three solid oak clappers, a point presser, pattern weights, and a tailor’s ham holder. We are absolutely lusting after this gorgeous set of sewing aids and can’t wait to give it away to one of you!

In addition, over the coming months, we have some great blog posts coming your way! In the meantime, head over to Instagram and use that #blazerofglory hashtag to let us know you are all in for tailoring!
