It is Week 2 of our #blazerofglory challenge for the Jasika Blazer and we are soooooo excited to see so many of you tailoring-hungry folks participating! Each week on Instagram we’ll be announcing the new prompt and sponsor/prize before picking a winner from the previous week. In order to continually be able to win a prize, we need to see that hashtag used in a story or post. We really want to see your weekly progress week by week, although feel free to dip in and out. One little tempting morsel… our grand prize will be a CUSTOM DRESS FORM based on a 3D scan of your body from our friends at Beatrice Forms, so you should definitely try to finish your blazer by the end of the 8 weeks if you want a shot at that incredible prize. This week’s prize: a $100 gift certificate to Fabrics and Fabrics (a truly mind-blowing fabric store with so many Jasika appropriate fabrics) along with a complete tailoring kit from us, which will include 2.5 meters of a super lux camel melton wool (the same one I used to make the sample I wear in our online class!), elbow patches and one of our tailoring supply kits.
This week’s challenge is all about sourcing your fabric, supplies and making a muslin. If you’re ordering fabric online, this week gives you a chance to cut and assemble your pattern and then work on the fit while you wait for it to arrive. To that end, we have three posts coming your way this week. Tomorrow we will be talking fabric, and will include links to all our favorite online stores for tailoring appropriate materials. Wednesday it’s all about supplies, with resources for gathering everything you’ll need. We are going to end the week with an in-depth fitting post. We cover all this in our online workshop but wanted to make this information available to everyone, so you can look forward to that!
For this week, use that hashtag #blazerofglory while you’re shopping for fabric or working on your muslin. It will help other tailors find you, and hopefully you can help each other out with that all-important fit. I am out of town for the next three weeks on a working vacation (including a week-long couture sewing intensive with Susan Khalje and a business conference in Palm Springs) so Alex and Amy will be taking over Instagram while I’m away. They are also making a blazer in the challenge so you can check in with them to see where they’re at! We can’t wait to see your progress this week!
